Brand Ambassador Vince Preston

Vince Preston is a passionate photographer and videographer based in the Midlands, UK. For Vince, photography and videography are more than just a job, they are a deep-seated passion. He loves capturing moments and telling stories through the lens. Whether it’s a portrait session in the UK, a commercial shoot, an event, or a destination wedding, Vince approaches every project with the same level of dedication and enthusiasm.

Photography is an ever-evolving art, and colour plays a key role in his work. Maintaining perfect colours and white balance is essential, which is why he uses the Calibrite ColorChecker Passport on location. This tool provides him with the base settings and the ability to achieve perfect white balance, making any necessary adjustments in photo editing software easier. It’s not just about achieving perfect colours on location; it’s also crucial to have a calibrated screen. That’s why Vince calibrates his monitor weekly with the Calibrite Display Plus, ensuring he is working in the correct colour space and delivering the best possible images to his clients.

Why is colour management important to your workflow?

Colour management is vital to my workflow. Whether I’m capturing portraits, product photography, or weddings, colour is key in every shot. By using Calibrite tools, from ColorChecker Passports to display calibration, I ensure that I capture true colours and achieve perfect white balance. These tools are the most used items in my kit bag; they speed up my workflow and enable me to deliver the best possible images.

What would you say is your greatest achievement to this day?

My greatest achievement has been capturing a storytelling image of a family’s loved one who passed away suddenly. I received a call thanking me for capturing that moment in time, a memory they will always treasure. It may not be an award, but it’s more meaningful than that—it’s knowing that I’ve provided a priceless memory for a family.

What is an interesting fact about yourself?

I am a self-taught photographer who started in 2019. I now run my own company, work with high-end commercial brands, and also in the public sector. I have achieved numerous awards over the years for my photography.

What is a top tip for people who aspire to do what you do?

Be yourself, and develop your own brand and style. I used to aspire to be a certain photographer because I liked their style and what they captured. But one day, I realised I didn’t want to be them—I just appreciated their work. I then started to focus on my own style and what I enjoyed capturing. So, do something today that your future self will thank you for: keep being creative, and don’t let anyone tell you that you can’t do it—because you can. Stay true to your style and use the tools to become better.
