As far as I am concerned, a photograph only exists once it is printed. Whatever photograph I create, whether it is from a wedding, a headshot session or an expedition in the outdoors, it is the result of a series of choices: Conception – Composition – Development – Paper. Nothing is left to chance and without proper colour management, the output rendition cannot be consistent, mastered and true to my creative vision. Colour Management is the gate keeper of creativity.
Leave a comfortable position at Adobe after 9 years, to focus fully on my photography business. Becoming a Master Photographer a year later. While being a full time photographer is already an achievement, having the recognition from my peers and sharing my passion for my craft with my students online and in my workshops is the cherry on the cake. Being inspired is great, being a source of inspiration to others is priceless.
We named our daughter Skye Nida Lutèce. Skye because of the Scottish Isle where I spend a lot of my time. My wife is Lithuanian and her name is Neringa. Nida is a small harbour on the Neringa peninsula in Lithuania. I was born in France and Paris is my favourite city in France. Lutèce was the former name of Paris.
Never be fully satisfied with what you achieve. It can always be better. Be consistent and persistent. Consider each photograph, each print you craft, as a representation of you and what you stand for, your brand. Be your toughest critic. With time, things will get easier and the pleasure greater.
As an artist-photographer and a fine art printer, I need to be in control of my whole workflow, from conception and capture to print. I realised early on that our eyes and brain can’t be trusted when it comes to the perception of colours; therefore, I relied on X-Rite’s colour management solutions for over ten years. Establishing Calibrite is the best thing that could have happened for the needs of photographers and videographers.
