Brand Ambassador KEITH COOPER

Keith is an architectural and industrial commercial photographer who produces elegant but informative images for commercial clients. Some of Keith’s more personal work is expressed in black and white landscape photography, striking an emotional chord with himself and others. Commercially, Keith seeks to provide images that capture something a little bit extra, whether it’s the essence and form of a structure or location or a picture of complex machinery that is both instructive and beautiful.
Previously, Keith has had a career as a geologist, electronic engineer, software developer, and researcher in organizational change and technical innovation. Keith specializes in the use of tilt/shift lenses and has even published a book on this topic.

Why is color management important to your workflow?

Color is a key element in my work and with digital techniques I have a wide range of options. Color management is not some spurious search for 'perfection’, but a means of getting things 'right first time more often’. Whether creating a camera profile to handle tricky lighting in a factory, or making an ICC profile to optimize printing on a new paper, it is an integral part of my photographic work, both color and B&W

What would you say is your greatest achievement to this day?

In terms of hard work, my (2020) book about using tilt/shift lenses.

What is an interesting fact about yourself?

I once accidentally dropped $20,000 of sonar equipment into the Indian Ocean, whilst working as a geophysicist and marine surveyor.

What is a top tip for people who aspire to do what you do?

Learn the technical aspects of photography – understand them, ignore many of them most of the time until that time they really make the difference.
