ROSS GRIEVE

Brand Ambassador ROSS GRIEVE

Ross has been a photographer for almost 25 years. He loves it, the people you meet, the stories they share. He believes that as photographers, no matter what genre you’re into, we are all some kind of historian. But to make this even more effective, photographers need to ensure that those memories don’t just stay on a hard drive; they need to be printed. Ross has always loved seeing images printed; he believes they are much more appealing and easier to access, especially if they are on show at home. Print is king and will always be in his mind.

With the industry changing, Ross has adapted to now produce films for clients as well as stills and is frequently asked about his grading and what LUTS he uses…

Why is color management important to your workflow?

Colour management is the essential element that makes all my imagery stand out from the competition, time and time again I look at images and the skin tone is off or the room is too cold. To me colour management is the foundation of any photographer and filmmaker.

What would you say is your greatest achievement to this day?

Winning awards is wonderful but to me living my childhood dream of becoming a professional photographer will always be at the top of the list. I have been flown all around the world to shoot, I have been a keynote speaker at an international product launch at Photokina, but doing what I love the most is my greatest achievement.

What is an interesting fact about yourself?

I was part of the worlds first tandem heli-bungy at 1060ft. I used to work for a bungy jumping company in New Zealand.

What is a top tip for people who aspire to do what you do?

Always be prepared to learn. Open your ears and you will see more but most of all practice, practice – it’s the best way to learn. Don’t be afraid to be inspired by others, but let that be inspiration and don’t fall into the trap of trying to copy that person.

Portfolio

I’ve always loved seeing images printed, but getting colours correct is the first step to creating beautiful prints. Calibrite products are a natural part of my photography & filmmaking workflow. They take the thinking out of colour management
