iccMAX information

You can calculate your profile according to ICC specification 2 or 4.

For the majority of cases, select ICC profile Version 2, which is the default setting.

Generally, the colour accuracy of version 2 and 4 profiles is quite similar; however, version 4 profiles might give you improved colour rendering in conversions, where only version 4 profiles are used.

Visit www.color.org for a complete summary of the differences between ICC versions.

Most colour management systems can use ICC version 4 profiles without issue. However, in some cases, third-party software may experience compatibility issues, so you should select the ICC version 2 option and rebuild your profile if that occurs.

What is iccMAX?

iccMAX is an updated approach to colour management that goes beyond D50 colourimetry (standard for the graphic print industry) and introduces additional concepts, including appearance and non-table-based profiles.

Visit www.color.org to learn more about iccMAX.

The iccMAX specification was finalised in 2019 by the ICC and has now become the ISO 20677 standard. Though there are very few commercial programs currently taking advantage of the new format, we have included the option here for future compatibility.

iccMAX profiles will show a ‘version 5’ in the profile header.

What is a ‘Version 4 (iccMAX Compatible)’ Profile?

This is a profile in version 4 format that has the iccMAX part embedded as a tag in the profile. It has a ‘version 4’ in the profile header, which makes it usable in existing ICC-compliant applications, but can also be used in applications that will support iccMAX profiles.

The ‘Version 4 (iccMAX Compatible)’ profile format is included to help develop the new iccMAX approach and support testing purposes. It should not be used other than for development purposes.

If you are using the iccMAX format, please verify the compatibility of the software where you intend to use it.
